Vocal Coaching

07.28.2008

A vocal coach is a person who works with singers on their singing technique, care and development of the voice, performance and preparation of a work. The coach may give instruction to the singer in private lessons, on stage, or during a recording session. A vocal coach is sometimes responsible for writing and producing vocal arrangements for a music production. Also with providing support for the singer.

The predominant method I use comes from the Italian ‘Bel Canto’ (which means beautiful singing) experience which has been developed over hundreds of years of study and teaching. Students are given appropriate vocal exercises for their age and range. They choose songs in their interest area and learn to perform them using appropriate technique.  Many students opt to learn how to sight sing music as part of their lessons.

My voice students have performed in community, college, high and middle school theatrical productions. They have competed and won vocal competitions, and have advanced significantly in American Idol competitions. Some students sing with bands in the North County.
